Arrive before pressing play
Sit quietly for a moment. Notice where you are, how you feel, and what you are bringing into the listening.
EXPLORE · SACRED LISTENING
Sacred listening begins when sound is no longer treated as background. Music, prayer, voice, and silence become something we meet with attention.
Enter quietlyMORE THAN BACKGROUND
The quality of our attention changes the quality of what we hear.
A mantra, prayer, melody, or repeated phrase may carry memory and meaning far beyond a single recording. Listening can become a way of receiving what others have carefully preserved.
You do not need to understand every word before listening with respect. Begin by being present, learning the context, and allowing the sound to unfold without rushing past it.
A LISTENING PRACTICE
Choose one short piece and create a few minutes without another task. Headphones are optional; presence is what matters.
01
Sit quietly for a moment. Notice where you are, how you feel, and what you are bringing into the listening.
02
You might listen for steadiness, gratitude, reflection, or simply the willingness to be present.
03
Notice voice, rhythm, tone, repetition, and the silence around them without trying to analyse every part.
04
When the sound ends, wait for a few breaths. Let the listening settle before moving into the next part of your day.
LISTENING WITH RESPECT
Names, languages, lineages, instruments, and occasions are part of the music—not details separate from it.
Credit teachers, musicians, writers, and communities clearly. Seek permission where it is needed and support original creators.
Different traditions understand sacred sound in different ways. Listen with curiosity rather than forcing them into one explanation.
THE SILENCE AROUND SOUND
A brief silence can make room for what the sound awakened—an emotion, a memory, a question, or simply a quieter breath. Nothing needs to be explained immediately.
